About Me
Wow, so you’ve made it this far huh? I guess that means you’re serious. Well, then, I suppose I should tell you a bit about myself. Let’s get going.
Personal
I have been married for more than a decade and a half. Our family lives in a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. My wife and I are the parents of three boys—two of them are currently teenagers. Ugh.
When I am not at work, we are normally involved, somehow, in a youth activity or two. This could include a sporting event (i.e. game or a practice), music lessons, or something church related.
Education
I graduated from the University of Utah waaaay back in 2015 with a bachelors degree in Information Systems—I think they’re calling it Computer Information Systems nowadays. Prior to attending the University of Utah, I earned an Associates Degree in Business at Salt Lake Community College.
Work
I have consistently been employed since I was 14-years-old. I’ve worked in retail, fast food, not so fast food, travel, and technology. These jobs had me stocking shelves in a store, washing dishes, bussing tables, prepping lasagna, and blanching spaghetti in a large cauldron. Most of these jobs were as a teenager and that time is now long gone. Post my teenage years, I have been working within two industries: travel and IT.
After graduating high school, I took my first “real job” in the airline industry. This lasted for a little over twelve years. Within the airline industry, I learned nearly every job they had to offer. This included working both outside and inside the aircraft. Outside duties were loading passenger baggage, freight, and mail. I was one of those guys that wore those ear muffs, got to wave around the mini lightsabers, and drove some heavy machinery. After a few years of working outside I made a big mistake. I requested a transfer inside the airport. Instead of loading baggage and freight on the aircraft, I was now loading people. This was a whole new challenge for me and greatly differs from working outside. I sold tickets at the counter, dealt with overweight bags, got to play “Where in the world is Carmen’s lost luggage™?”. Those weren’t too bad. The real challenge was with delays, cancellations, and missed connections. I managed to keep this one together for just over nine years.
After making it out of there alive, barely, I moved on to the IT industry. Was this a coincidence that I had just completed my degree at the university? I think not! Wanting to start applying my freshly minted diploma, I took a job in the Tech industry. I have never looked back. I’ve been here ever since. I started out in a help desk role, moved up to on-site field support, and have landed in an administrator role. As an administrator, I have administered various systems and platforms. These include: document management, library (ILS), ITIL, and finally CRM software. It is of the latter that I still reside. I am currently working as a Salesforce administrator at my current location.
Hobbies
I am a comic book nerd. I have been collecting reading comic books, off and on, ever since I’ve had a disposable income in
the early 90s. I cannot claim to be a collector of comics, I can only fess up to reading them. Meaning, I do not purchase them in
hopes to hold and sell for a profit in the distant future. Nobody can really make money on comic books nowadays. Well, that is, unless you
have those rare golden or silver age issues that are sold at auction.
I have a collection of more than 3,000 single issue comics and a sizable collection of…collected edition… comic books called an omnibus or hardcover. For the last six or seven years now I’ve switched from purchasing single issues to exclusively purchasing collected editions. Collected editions are much easier to store over the single issues and come at a more attractive price if you can wait for the trade™. Check out my inventory to see all of my collected editions.
I am also an avid ice hockey fan and closely follow the New Jersey Devils for better or worse. Beyond professional ice hockey, two of my kids play the sport as well. So when I’m not watching the pros play the game, I’m taking one, or both, to either a practice or one of their recreation league games.
